Banff Film festival Opening weekend

With winter on the horizon, we (Dan, Robin and myself)decided to do one last hike this season to coincide with opening weekend at the Banff Film festival. Funny, today we hiked and Nakiska ski hill opened up for the season. We haven't been to the Banff National Park yet this year and I have to say I missed the fantastic views and trails it has to offer. We drove to Canmore nad started onto the trail. We really liked this hike. It had good elevation and beautiful views of most of the 18 peaks of mount Rundle, Ha ling Peak, Miner Peak, Lawrence Grassi, the three Sisters, Rimwall, Mount Lougheed and Grotto. The peak of this hike was named after Susan Agnes Macdonal, wife of Canadas first prime minister Sir John A Macdonald. We reached the abandoned partially built tea house and heli pad. At one time, they were planning on having heli hikes to this point but I believe the town of Canmore did not pass this through. It was really windy and cold at the top. We didn't conitnue to the ridge. We'll just have to go back another time to do that. This hike was challenging and fun.

After the hike Robin and I drove to Banff to enjoy the opening weekend for the Banff Mountain Film Festival. Dan drove back to Calgary. We stayed at the Banff Centre , enjoyed dinner at the Three Ravens Restaurant and watched Dianne Wheland's world premier of 40 Days at Base Camp . I love Banff and the area. Excellent weekend!!
